Simple Optimization for PHP and MySQL These all make sence, but besides using indexes and generaly not putting stuff in the DB that doesn't need to be, these arn't earth shattering improvments. I don't think that a site that had these problems would go from unable to handle 1000's of hits per second to being able to.
I know this sloppy little site could never handle a digg/slash dotting. The simplest requests hit the database like 4 times. Perhaps I should build a cache. so that full rendered pages were stored in the DB and those were only updated when the data is updated. But it's Soooo not wort it for the level of traffic I currently have
