I just updated the code so that it won't display the "show sorces" link if no link on the page has the source= attribute or the user isn't running javascript.
Another really slick solution that I stumbled into is that if I change the href of the "show_sources" link to "" the result if the user clicks on it is a page reload. this, in effect resets the page, so this make the link act as a toggle.
