I think the the decision to use linux or windows boils down to the following:
if you want a system that works out of the box , software and hardware that installs easily then use windows.Sure windows has viruses and they are a fucking pain in the ass , but you can just buy a quality anti-virus system that will keep you safe .
Secondly in linux things usually break or need some tweaking to work efficiently.Although their is alot of support out their on forums , most non-it orientated people find this daunting and don't really have the time to search the web looking for solutions.
